Form 12BB
Form 12BB is the declaration an employee submits to their employer detailing investments and expenses claimed for tax, so the employer can deduct the correct TDS from salary.
Form 12BB is the statement you give your employer to declare tax-saving claims — such as HRA (with rent and landlord PAN), LTA, home-loan interest, and deductions under Section 80C, 80D and others — along with supporting evidence.
Based on this, the employer computes your taxable income and deducts the appropriate TDS through the year, avoiding either over- or under-deduction. Proof is generally required toward the financial year-end.
Submitting accurate Form 12BB details helps align the TDS with your actual liability, reducing the chance of a large tax dues or refund at filing time. It is relevant mainly under the old regime where such deductions apply.
