Online Bond Platform Provider (OBPP)

An Online Bond Platform Provider is a SEBI-registered entity that offers listed debt securities to retail investors through an online platform under a dedicated regulatory framework.

An OBPP is regulated by SEBI specifically to sell listed bonds (and certain debt securities) to retail investors online, bringing transparency, disclosure norms and investor protection to a market that was historically institution-dominated.

Registration requires the platform to be a stockbroker in the debt segment and to follow rules on disclosures, KYC, settlement and risk warnings. This helps investors buy corporate and government bonds in smaller lots with clearer information.

Returns come from coupons and price changes, and risks include credit, interest-rate and liquidity risk. The OBPP framework aims to make retail bond investing safer and more standardised.
