OPD Cover

OPD cover reimburses outpatient medical expenses such as doctor consultations, diagnostics and pharmacy bills that do not require hospitalisation.

Traditional Indian health insurance pays only for inpatient treatment requiring 24-hour hospitalisation, leaving routine outpatient costs uncovered. OPD add-ons or plans fill this gap by reimbursing consultations, tests, minor procedures and medicines up to a sub-limit.

Because outpatient costs are frequent and predictable, OPD cover tends to raise premiums significantly and may operate on a fixed annual limit or a wallet model. It suits families with chronic conditions or young children who visit doctors often, but for many it is cheaper to self-fund routine OPD expenses.
