HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited) announced the appointment of Baldeo Purushartha, a 2002-batch IAS officer, as a Government Nominee Director on its board.
Purushartha currently serves as Joint Secretary, Infrastructure Policy & Planning Division at the Ministry of Finance. His expertise in infrastructure policy and governance is expected to bolster HUDCO’s strategic oversight as it manages its expanding financing portfolio across India’s urban development landscape.
Strategic MoU with NMRDA: ₹11,300 Cr Commitment
On September 8, 2025, HUDCO signed a non-binding MoU with the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to explore funding support of up to ₹11,300 crore over five years.
The funds will focus on land acquisition, housing, and infrastructure development projects in the Nagpur Metropolitan Region. HUDCO will also extend consultancy and capacity-building services to NMRDA, strengthening project execution capabilities
Context & Strategic Significance
- Urban Infra Push: This MoU highlights HUDCO’s expanding role in Maharashtra’s infrastructure story.
- Follow-up to MMRDA Deal: In April 2025, HUDCO committed up to ₹1.5 lakh crore for MMRDA projects, reinforcing its status as a leading urban infrastructure financier.
- Governance Upgrade: The appointment of Purushartha signals HUDCO’s intent to strengthen board-level decision-making as it undertakes large-scale, long-tenure financing commitments.
Why It Matters
HUDCO is positioning itself as a key enabler of state-led urban development, especially in Maharashtra, home to some of India’s most ambitious city infrastructure projects. These moves could improve project execution visibility, enhance stakeholder confidence, and support long-term revenue growth through steady lending pipelines.
