Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries, has officially entered India’s fast-growing pet-care market with the launch of its new brand Waggies. Positioned around the idea of offering “global quality at affordable prices,” RCPL aims to democratize pet nutrition through aggressive pricing and science-backed formulations.

Waggies follows a mass-adoption philosophy, “From Few Households to Many”, reflecting Reliance’s ambition to scale rapidly across urban, semi-urban, and smaller towns. The pricing strategy is intentionally disruptive: Waggies products will be 20%–50% cheaper than established players including Nestlé, Mars, Godrej, and Emami. The base line begins at ₹199/kg, with trial-friendly 100 g packs at just ₹20. For premium buyers, Reliance has also introduced Waggies Pro, starting at ₹249.

RCPL stresses that Waggies is a science-led brand, formulated with herbs, DHA, essential vitamins, prebiotics, and highly digestible ingredients. According to Executive Director Ketan Mody, the key benefits include extra protein, digestive support, balanced all-day energy, and joint, skin, and coat health, positioning Waggies as a nutrition-forward offering rather than just a low-cost alternative.

The entry comes at an opportune time: India’s pet-care market is expanding rapidly. A Redseer report cited in the article projects the market to double to US$ 7 billion by 2028, up from US$ 3.5 billion today. Pet ownership has climbed to 32 million in 2024 (from 26 million in 2019), driven by rising disposable incomes and shifting lifestyles. Key trends such as premiumisation and subscription-based services are accelerating growth across food, grooming, and health segments.

Strategically, Waggies is designed to bridge a key market gap, premium-style nutrition at accessible prices, a playbook Reliance has used effectively in beverages and staples. The affordable trial packs and nationwide retail distribution give RCPL a strong advantage in scaling quickly. With its aggressive pricing and extensive supply-chain muscle, Waggies could become a major challenger to global incumbents, potentially reshaping pricing dynamics in India’s pet-food sector.
